  My soul in sad exile was out on life’s sea, So burdened with sin and distressed, Till I heard a sweet voice, saying, “Make Me your choice”; And I entered the “Haven of Rest”! Refrain I’ve anchored my soul in the “Haven of Rest,” I’ll sail the wide seas no more; The tempest may sweep over wild, stormy, deep, In Jesus I’m safe evermore. I yielded myself to His tender embrace, In faith taking hold of the Word, My fetters fell off, and I anchored my soul; The “Haven of Rest” is my Lord.   I know not if or dark or bright Shall be my lot; If that wherein my hopes delight Be best or not. It may be mine to drag for years Toil’s heavy chain, Or day and night my meat be tears On bed of pain. Dear faces may surround my health With smiles and glee, Or I may dwell alone, and mirth Be strange to me. My bark is wafted to the strand By breath divine, And on its helm there rests a hand Other than mine.   Adrift on the waters, so dark and so cold, Afar from the beautiful city of gold, A vessel is sinking, for heavy the gale, The cable is broken, and tattered each sail.   When through the torn sail the wild tempest is raging, When o’er the dark wave the red lightning is gleaming, Nor hope lends a ray the poor seaman to cherish, We fly to our Maker, “Save, Lord, or we perish.” O Jesus, once rocked on the breast of the billow, Aroused by the shriek of despair from Thy pillow, Now seated in glory, the mariner cherish, Who cries in his anguish, “Save, Lord, or we perish.” And O! when the whirlwind of passion is raging, When sin in our hearts his wild warfare is waging, Then send down Thy grace Thy redeemèd to cherish Rebuke the destroyer; “Save, Lord, or we perish.”

• [Mat 8:26] I Feel The Winds Of God Today

  I feel the winds of God today; today my sail I lift, Though heavy, oft with drenching spray, and torn with many a rift; If hope but light the water’s crest, and Christ my bark will use, I’ll seek the seas at His behest, and brave another cruise. It is the wind of God that dries my vain regretful tears, Until with braver thoughts shall rise the purer, brighter years; If cast on shores of selfish ease or pleasure I should be; Lord, let me feel Thy freshening breeze, and I’ll put back to sea. If ever I forget Thy love and how that love was shown, Lift high the blood red flag above; it bears Thy Name alone.
