[8:34]  1 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative. The Greek word ἰδού (idou) has not been translated because it has no exact English equivalent here, but adds interest and emphasis (BDAG 468 s.v. 1).

[8:34]  2 tn Or “city.”

[9:11]  3 sn See the note on Pharisees in 3:7.

[9:11]  4 sn The issue here is inappropriate associations. Jews were very careful about personal associations and contact as a matter of ritual cleanliness. Their question borders on an accusation that Jesus is ritually unclean.

[12:2]  5 sn See the note on Pharisees in 3:7.

[14:26]  7 tn Here δέ (de) has not been translated.

[14:26]  8 tn Grk “on the sea”; or “on the lake.” The translation “water” has been used here for stylistic reasons (cf. the same phrase in v. 25).

[18:31]  9 tn Grk “Therefore when.” Here οὖν (oun) has not been translated.
