• [Luk 24:27] In Thy Glorious Resurrection

  In Thy glorious resurrection, Lord, we see a world’s erection, Man in Thee is glorified. Bliss, for which the patriarchs panted, Joys, by holy psalmists chanted, Now in Thee are verified. Oracles of former ages, Veiled in dim prophetic pages, Now lie open to the sight; Now the types, which glimmered darkling In the twilight gloom, are sparkling, In the blaze of noonday light. Isaac from the wood is risen; Joseph issues from the prison; See the Paschal Lamb which saves; Israel through the sea is landed, Pharaoh and his hosts are stranded, And o’erwhelmèd in the waves.   Come then, Thou Prophet of the Lord, Thou great Interpreter divine, Explain Thine own transmitted Word: To teach, and to inspire is Thine; Thou only canst Thyself reveal: Open the Book, and loose the seal.   O perfect God, Thy love As perfect Man did share Here upon earth each form of ill Thy fellow men must bear. Now from the tree of scorn We hear Thy voice again; Thou Who didst take our mortal flesh Hast felt our mortal pain. Thy body suffers thirst, Parched are Thy lips and dry: How poor the offering man can bring Thy thirst to satisfy!   All is o’er, the pain, the sorrow, Human taunts and fiendish spite; Death shall be despoiled tomorrow Of the prey he grasps tonight; Yet awhile, His own to save, Christ must linger in the grave.   All the sacrifice is ended, Breathed His body’s latest breath, And His human Soul hath wended Where the weary rest beneath; Christ as Man hath comprehended All the human law of death! Yet not there His Soul remaineth Nor His body in the tomb: Lo! what sudden glory gaineth Quick dominion o’er the gloom! Yea, o’er death and hell He reigneth Bursting back the gates of doom!
