This was the head of the emperor; the superscription his titles. Julius C‘sar was the first who caused his image to be struck on the Roman coin; and Tiberius was emperor at this time. This therefore was a denarius of C‘sar, [dinarah kesar-anah,] as it is termed in the Talmud; and consequently this was respecting the tribute required by the Roman government.
