[18:41]  1 tn Heb “but there is no deliverer.”

[18:41]  2 tn Heb “to the Lord.” The words “they cry out” are supplied in the translation because they are understood by ellipsis (see the preceding line).

[22:2]  3 tn Heb “there is no silence to me.”

[27:7]  5 tn Heb “my voice.”

[28:2]  7 sn I lift my hands. Lifting one’s hands toward God was a gesture of prayer.

[28:2]  8 tn The Hebrew term דְּבִיר (dÿvir, “temple”) actually refers to the most holy place within the sanctuary.

[34:6]  9 tn The pronoun refers back to “this oppressed man,” namely, the psalmist.

[34:17]  11 tn Heb “they” (i.e., the godly mentioned in v. 15).

[34:17]  12 tn The three perfect verbal forms are taken in a generalizing sense in v. 17 and translated with the present tense (note the generalizing mood of vv. 18-22).

[63:4]  13 tn Or perhaps “then.”

[63:4]  14 sn I will lift up my hands. Lifting up one’s hands toward God was a gesture of prayer (see Ps 28:2; Lam 2:19) or respect (Ps 119:48).

[69:3]  15 tn Or perhaps “raw”; Heb “burned; enflamed.”

[69:3]  16 tn Heb “my eyes fail from waiting for my God.” The psalmist has intently kept his eyes open, looking for God to intervene, but now his eyes are watery and bloodshot, impairing his vision.

[77:11]  17 tn Heb “yes, I will remember from old your wonders.”

[83:18]  19 tn After the preceding jussives (v. 17), the prefixed verbal form with prefixed vav (ו) indicates purpose (“so that they may know”) or result.

[83:18]  20 tn Heb “that you, your name [is] the Lord, you alone.”

[83:18]  21 tn Traditionally “the Most High.”

[89:15]  21 tn Heb “who know the shout.” “Shout” here refers to the shouts of the Lord’s worshipers (see Pss 27:6; 33:3; 47:5).

[89:15]  22 tn Heb “in the light of your face they walk.” The idiom “light of your face” probably refers to a smile (see Eccl 8:1), which in turn suggests favor and blessing (see Num 6:25; Pss 4:6; 31:16; 44:3; 67:1; 80:3, 7, 19; Dan 9:17).

[96:4]  23 tn Or perhaps “and feared by all gods.” See Ps 89:7.

[109:7]  25 tn The prefixed verbal form could be taken as a jussive, but the use of the imperfect form in the following line suggests that v. 7 anticipates the outcome of the accusation envisioned in v. 6.

[109:7]  26 tn Heb “he will go out [as] a criminal” (that is, guilty).

[147:9]  27 tn Heb “which cry out.”
