Lachish, Bozkath, Eglon,
the king of Eglon (one), the king of Gezer (one),
He brought the tribute payment to King Eglon of Moab. (Now Eglon was a very fat man.)
The Israelites were subject to 1 King Eglon of Moab for eighteen years.
Joshua and all Israel marched from Lachish to Eglon. They deployed troops 1 and fought against it.
Joshua and all Israel marched up from Eglon to Hebron and fought against it.
Ehud reached with his left hand, pulled the sword from his right thigh, and drove it into Eglon’s 1 belly.
So King Adoni-Zedek of Jerusalem sent this message to King Hoham of Hebron, King Piram of Jarmuth, King Japhia of Lachish, and King Debir of Eglon:
Eglon formed alliances with 1 the Ammonites and Amalekites. He came and defeated Israel, and they seized the City of Date Palm Trees.
So the five Amorite kings (the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon) and all their troops gathered together and advanced. They deployed their troops and fought against Gibeon. 1
They captured it and put the sword to its king, all its surrounding cities, and all who lived in it; they 1 left no survivors. As they 2 had done at Eglon, they 3 annihilated it and all who lived there.
When the Israelites cried out for help to the Lord, he 1 raised up a deliverer for them. His name was Ehud son of Gera the Benjaminite, a left-handed man. 2 The Israelites sent him to King Eglon of Moab with their tribute payment. 3
As Ehud went out into the vestibule, 1 he closed the doors of the upper room behind him and locked them.
