So let our love, outgoing Among the songs of men, Thy strength and joy bestowing, Return Thy gifts again.   We give Thee but Thine own, Whate’er the gift may be; All that we have is Thine alone, A trust, O Lord, from Thee. May we Thy bounties thus As stewards true receive, And gladly, as Thou blessest us, To Thee our firstfruits give. O hearts are bruised and dead, And homes are bare and cold, And lambs for whom the Shepherd bled Are straying from the fold. To comfort and to bless, To find a balm for woe, To tend the lone and fatherless Is angels’ work below.   Jesus, who bought us with His blood, And makes our souls His care; Was known of old as Israel’s God, And answered Jabez’ prayer. Jabez! a child of grief! the name Befits poor sinners well; For Jesus bore the cross and shame, To save our souls from hell. Teach us, O Lord, like him, to plead For mercies from above; O come, and bless our souls indeed, With light, and joy, and love.   Lord, Source of all blessing, bless us indeed; For Yours is the bounty, and ours is the need; We trust to Your wisdom, in this request, For You give Your children all the best. Enlarge, too, our boundaries, so that we may Begin greater work for Your kingdom this day; May we be a blessing, to those who seek For meaning in lives where hope is weak. Lord, while we are striving, give us Your hand To help spread Your Word throughout the land; Let us do not evil, seek only right, And usher in dawn to darkest night.
