Isaiah 64:6

Context

We all wither like a leaf;

our sins carry us away like the wind.

Daniel 9:18

Context
9:18 Listen attentively, 9  my God, and hear! Open your eyes and look on our desolated ruins 10  and the city called by your name. 11  For it is not because of our own righteous deeds that we are praying to you, 12  but because your compassion is abundant.

[30:18]  1 tn Heb “without what is written.”

[30:18]  2 tn Heb “make atonement for.”

[30:19]  3 tn Heb “everyone [who] has prepared his heart to seek God.”

[30:19]  4 tn Heb “and not according to the purification of the holy place.”

[30:20]  5 tn Heb “listened.”

[30:20]  6 tn Heb “healed.”

[9:15]  7 tn Heb “this”; the referent (the guilt mentioned previously) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[64:6]  8 tn Heb “and like a garment of menstruation [are] all our righteous acts”; KJV, NIV “filthy rags”; ASV “a polluted garment.”

[9:18]  9 tn Heb “turn your ear.”

[9:18]  10 tn Heb “desolations.” The term refers here to the ruined condition of Judah’s towns.

[9:18]  11 tn Heb “over which your name is called.” Cf. v. 19. This expression implies that God is the owner of his city, Jerusalem. Note the use of the idiom in 2 Sam 12:28; Isa 4:1; Amos 9:12.

[9:18]  12 tn Heb “praying our supplications before you.”

[22:12]  13 tn Grk “he was silent.”

[7:13]  14 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the vision.

[7:13]  15 tn Grk “spoke” or “declared to,” but in the context “asked” reads more naturally in English.

[7:14]  16 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so” to indicate the implied result of the previous question.

[7:14]  17 tn Though the expression “the answer” is not in the Greek text, it is clearly implied. Direct objects in Greek were frequently omitted when clear from the context.

[7:14]  18 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the vision.

[7:14]  19 tn Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation. Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[19:8]  20 tn On the term translated “fine linen,” BDAG 185 s.v. βύσσινος states, “made of fine linen, subst. τὸ β. fine linen, linen garmentRv 18:12…16; 19:8, 14.”

[19:8]  21 sn This phrase is treated as a parenthetical explanation by the author.
