• [Psa 95:2] Come, Ye Thankful People, Come

  Come, ye thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest home; All is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin. God our Maker doth provide for our wants to be supplied; Come to God’s own temple, come, raise the song of harvest home. All the world is God’s own field, fruit unto His praise to yield; Wheat and tares together sown unto joy or sorrow grown. First the blade and then the ear, then the full corn shall appear; Lord of harvest, grant that we wholesome grain and pure may be. For the Lord our God shall come, and shall take His harvest home; From His field shall in that day all offenses purge away, Giving angels charge at last in the fire the tares to cast; But the fruitful ears to store in His garner evermore.   Not alone for mighty empire, stretching far over land and sea, Not alone for bounteous harvests, lift we up our hearts to Thee. Standing in the living present, memory and hope between, Lord, we would with deep thanksgiving, praise Thee more for things unseen. Not for battleships and fortress, not for conquests of the sword, But for conquests of the spirit give we thanks to Thee, O Lord; For the priceless gift of freedom, for the home, the church, the school, For the open door to manhood, in a land the people rule. For the armies of the faithful, souls that passed and left no name; For the glory that illumines patriot lives of deathless fame. For our prophets and apostles, loyal to the living Word, For all heroes of the spirit, give we thanks to Thee, O Lord.
