25:1 Amaziah <0558> was twenty-five <02568> <06242> years <08141> old <01121> when he began to reign, and he reigned <04427> for twenty-nine <08672> <06242> years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>. His mother <0517> was Jehoaddan <03086>, who was from Jerusalem <03389>. 25:2 He did <06213> what the Lord <03068> approved <05869> <03477>, but <07535> not <03808> with wholehearted devotion <08003> <03824>. 25:3 When <0834> <01961> he had secured <02388> control of the kingdom <04467>, he executed <02026> the servants <05650> who had assassinated <05221> his father <01>. 25:4 However, he did not <03808> execute <04191> their sons <01121>. He obeyed <06680> the Lord’s <03068> commandment <0559> as recorded <03789> in the law <08451> scroll <05612> of Moses <04872>, “Fathers <01> must not <03808> be executed <04191> for <05921> what their sons <01121> do, and sons <01121> must not <03808> be executed <04191> for <05921> what their fathers <01> do. God <0430> is <03426> capable <03581> of helping <05826> or defeating <03782>.” 25:9 Amaziah <0558> asked <0559> the prophet <0430> <0376>: “But what <04100> should I do <06213> about the hundred <03967> talents <03603> of <0834> silver I paid <05414> the Israelite <03478> troops <01416>?” The prophet <0430> <0376> replied <0559>, “The Lord <03068> is <03426> capable of giving <05414> you more <07235> than that <02088>.” 25:10 So Amaziah <0558> dismissed <0914> the troops <01416> that <0834> had come <0935> to <0413> him from Ephraim <0669> and sent <01980> them home <04725>. Stop <02308> prophesying or else you will be killed <05221>!” So the prophet <05030> stopped <02308>, but added <0559>, “I know <03045> that <03588> the Lord <0430> has decided <03289> to destroy <07843> you, because <03588> you have done <06213> this <02063> thing and refused <03808> to listen <08085> to my advice <06098>.” 25:17 After King <04428> Amaziah <0558> of Judah <03063> consulted <03289> with his advisers, he sent <07971> this message to <0413> the king <04428> of Israel <03478>, Joash <03101> son <01121> of Jehoahaz <03059>, the son <01121> of Jehu <03058>, “Come, face <06440> <07200> me on the battlefield.” 25:18 King <04428> Joash <03101> of Israel <03478> sent <07971> this message back <07971> to <0413> King <04428> Amaziah <0558> of Judah <03063>, “A thorn bush <02336> in Lebanon <03844> sent <07971> this message to <0413> a cedar <0730> in Lebanon <03844>, ‘Give <05414> your daughter <01323> to my son <01121> as a wife <0802>.’ Then a wild <07704> animal <02416> of Lebanon <03844> came by <05674> and trampled down <07429> the thorn bush <02336>. 25:19 You defeated <05221> Edom <0123> and it has gone <05375> to your head <03820>.
