  O the bitter shame and sorrow, That a time could ever be, When I let the Savior’s pity Plead in vain, and proudly answered, “All of self, and none of Thee!” Yet He found me; I beheld Him Bleeding on th’accursèd tree, Heard Him pray, “Forgive them, Father!” And my wistful heart said faintly, “Some of self, and some of Thee!” Day by day His tender mercy, Healing, helping, full and free, Sweet and strong, and ah! so patient, Brought me lower, while I whispered, “Less of self, and more of Thee!” Higher than the highest heavens, Deeper than the deepest sea, Lord, Thy love at last hath conquered: Grant me now my supplication, “None of self, and all of Thee!”

  Servant of God, remember The stream thy soul bedewing, The grace that came upon thee Anointing and renewing. When kindly slumber calls thee, Upon thy bed reclining, Trace thou the cross of Jesus, Thy heart and forehead signing. The cross dissolves the darkness, And drives away temptation; It calms the wavering spirit By quiet consecration.   There is a house not made with hands, Eternal and on high; And here my spirit waiting stands, Till God shall bid it fly. Shortly this prison of my clay Must be dissolved and fall; Then, O my soul! with joy obey Thy heav’nly Father’s call. ’Tis He, by His almighty grace, That forms Thee fit for Heav’n; And, as an earnest of the place, Has His own Spirit giv’n. We walk by faith of joys to come, Faith lives upon His Word; But while the body is our home, We’re absent from the Lord. ’Tis pleasant to believe Thy grace, But we had rather see; We would be absent from the flesh And present, Lord, with Thee.

2 Corinthians 4:1-3

• [2Co 4:1] Since Through God’s Mercy

  Since through God’s mercy this ministry’s ours, Bringing men righteousness through God’s great power, We don’t lose heart but renounce shameful ways; We don’t deceive but the truth plainly say. To unbelievers our message is veiled; They are made blind by the god of this world. But God who said, “Let the dark turn to light,” Shined in our hearts with His glory so bright. We are hard pressed on all sides but not crushed; We are perplexed, but we never give up; We’re persecuted but not left by God; We are struck down, but we’re never destroyed. We have this treasure in jars made of clay, That God’s great power and not ours be displayed. Within our bodies Christ’s death do we show, That Jesus’ life in us now may be known. We know we’ll be raised with Jesus one day; Therefore, our trials do not cause dismay. Though on the outside we’re wasting away, Inwardly we are renewed day by day. Our present troubles will soon pass away; Eternal glory they’ll bring us some day. We fix our eyes not on what we can see; Only the unseen will eternal be.
