There in the upper room, He told the twelve, That He must die, thus from hell to save, Our souls held fast by hellish sinful loves, So we all might find homes in Heav’n above. Fill thy lips to overflowing With sweet praise, His mercy showing Who this heav’nly table spread: On this day so glad and holy, To each longing spirit lowly Giveth He the living Bread. Here the King hath spread His table, Whereon eyes of faith are able Christ our Passover to trace: Shadows of the law are going, Light and life and truth inflowing, Night to day is giving place. Lo, this angels’ food descending Heavenly love is hither sending, Hungry lips on earth to feed: So the paschal lamb was given, So the manna came from Heaven, Isaac was His type indeed. O Good Shepherd, Bread life giving, Us, Thy grace and life receiving, Feed and shelter evermore; Thou on earth our weakness guiding, We in Heav’n with Thee abiding, With all saints will Thee adore.

Content we find Him cradled there Amongst the filth and beasts. Who would believe that He will be Our guide from death to peace! By angry swords and dark decree He’s driven from His land. But still He humbly bows His head To trust His Father’s hand. The spotless Lamb lays down His life, A curse upon a cross. Then lives that He might guarantee That no sheep will be lost. O! May our hearts grow ever fond Of Mary’s precious boy: Our Christ, our hope, our heart’s desire, Our King and Sov’reign Joy!

  O Savior, may we never rest Till Thou art formed within, Till Thou hast calmed our troubled breast, And crushed the power of sin. O may we gaze upon Thy cross, Until the wondrous sight Makes earthly treasures seem but dross, And earthly sorrows light. Until, released from carnal ties, Our spirit upward springs, And sees true peace above the skies, True joy in heavenly things. There as we gaze, may we become United, Lord, to Thee, And, in a fairer, happier home, Thy perfect beauty see.
