I sink in life’s alarms when by myself I stand; Imprison me within Thine arms, and strong shall be my hand. My heart is weak and poor until it master find; It has no spring of action sure, it varies with the wind. It cannot freely move till Thou has wrought its chain; Enslave it with Thy matchless love, and deathless it shall reign.   See, the Conqueror mounts in triumph; see the King in royal state, Riding on the clouds, His chariot, to His heavenly palace gate. Hark! the choirs of angel voices joyful alleluias sing, And the portals high are lifted to receive their heavenly King. Who is this that comes in glory, with the trump of jubilee? Lord of battles, God of armies, He has gained the victory. He Who on the cross did suffer, He Who from the grave arose, He has vanquished sin and Satan, He by death has spoiled His foes.   Faith is a living power from Heaven That grasps the promise God hath given, A trust that cannot be o’erthrown, Fixed heartily on Christ alone. Faith finds in Christ whate’er we need To save or strengthen us indeed, Receives the grace He sends us down, And makes us share His cross and crown. Faith in the conscience worketh peace, And bids the mourner’s weeping cease; By faith the children’s place we claim, And give all honor to one Name. Faith feels the Spirit’s kindling breath In love and hope that conquer death; Faith worketh hourly joy in God, And trusts and blesses e’en the rod.
