Fearful is Thy Name, O Lord! Dread Thy voice and sharp Thy sword; Thunders roll around Thy path; None can stand before Thy wrath!   And will the Judge descend, And must the dead arise And not a single soul escape His all discerning eyes? And from His righteous lips Shall this dread sentence sound And through the numerous guilty throng Spread black despair around: “Depart from Me, accursed, To everlasting flame, For rebel angels first prepared, Where mercy never came”? How will my heart endure The terrors of that day When earth and Heav’n before His face Astonished shrink away? But ere that trumpet shakes The mansions of the dead, Hark from the Gospel’s cheering sound What joyful tidings spread: Ye sinners, seek His grace Whose wrath ye cannot bear; Fly to the shelter of His cross And find salvation there. So shall that curse remove, By which the Savior bled; And the last awful day shall pour His blessings on your head.

  That awful day will surely come, Th’appointed hour makes haste, When I must stand before my Judge, And pass the solemn test. Thou lovely Chief of all my joys, Thou Sovereign of my heart! How could I bear to hear Thy voice Pronounce the sound, “Depart!” The thunder of that dismal word Would so torment my ear, ’Twould tear my soul asunder, Lord, With most tormenting fear.   By Christ redeemed, in Christ restored, We keep the memory adored, And show the death of our dear Lord, Until He come. His body broken in our stead Is here in this memorial bread, And so our feeble love is fed Until He come. The streams of His dread agony, His life blood shed for us, we see; The wine shall tell the mystery Until He come. And thus that dark betrayal night With the last advent we unite By one blest chain of loving rite Until He come. Until the trump of God be heard, Until the ancient graves be stirred, And, with the great commanding word, The Lord shall come. Hebrews 6:6-8
