Then with men God will make his dwelling; they will be his people indeed. God himself will be with them always and their God will ever be. God will wipe away every teardrop; there’ll be no more crying or pain. Death and mourning will have no place there; old things will no longer remain. From his throne God utters this promise: “I am making everything new!” Now is written all that’s been spoken, for these words are trusted and true. God the Lord is Alpha, Omega, the Beginning and the End. From the spring of living water, a free drink he’ll give to all men. He who overcomes will inherit all the blessings found in God’s Word.   How blest the righteous when he dies! When sinks a weary soul to rest, How mildly beam the closing eyes, How gently heaves th’expiring breast! So fades a summer cloud away; So sinks a gale when storms are o’er; So gently shuts the eye of day; So dies a wave along the shore. A holy quiet reigns around, A calm which life nor death destroys; And naught disturbs that peace profound Which his unfettered soul enjoys. Farewell, conflicting hopes and fears, Where lights and shades alternate dwell; How bright th’unchanging morn appears! Farewell, inconstant world, farewell! Life’s labor done, as sinks the clay, Light from its load the spirit flies, While Heav’n and earth combine to say, “How blest the righteous when he dies!”

  Hush! blessèd are the dead In Jesus’ arms who rest, And lean their weary head Forever on His breast. O beatific sight! No darkling veil between, They see the Light of Light, Whom here they loved unseen. Them the Good Shepherd leads, Where storms are never rife, In tranquil dewy meads Beside the Fount of Life. O tender hearts and true, Our long last vigil kept, We weep and mourn for you; Nor blame us: Jesus wept. But soon at break of day His calm almighty voice, Stronger than death, shall say, Awake! Arise! Rejoice!

• [Rev 14:13] Oh, How Blest Are Ye Whose Toils Are Ended

  Oh, how blest are ye whose toils are ended! Who, through death, have unto God ascended! Ye have arisen From the cares which keep us still in prison. We are still as in a dungeon living, Still oppressed with sorrow and misgiving; Our undertakings Are but toils, and troubles, and heart-breakings. Ye meanwhile, are in your chambers sleeping, Quiet, and set free from all our weeping; No cross nor trial Hinders your enjoyments with denial. Christ has wiped away your tears for ever; Ye have that for which we still endeavor. To you are chanted Songs which yet no mortal ear have haunted. Ah! who would not, then, depart with gladness, To inherit Heaven for earthly sadness? Who here would languish Longer in bewailing and in anguish? Come, O Christ, and loose the chains that bind us! Lead us forth, and cast this world behind us! With Thee, the Anointed, Finds the soul its joy and rest appointed.

• [Rev 19:10] Life And Strength Of All Thy Servants

  Life and strength of all Thy servants, Brightness of the Father’s light; Men with angels, earth with Heaven, In Thy praise their songs unite. Thousand thousand warrior princes In Thine angel army stand; Flames the victor Cross before them, Grasped in Michael’s dauntless hand. Hurling back from Heav’n the rebels With the lifting of his sword, In the might of God he tramples On the dragon’s head abhorred. Lord of angels, Christ, we pray Thee, Bid them aid us in our strife, Chase afar the hosts of evil, Till we reach the land of life. God the Father, God immortal, God the Son, for us Who died, God the Comforter, the Spirit, Evermore be glorified!
