• [Heb 10:4] Not All The Blood Of Beasts

  Not all the blood of beasts On Jewish altars slain Could give the guilty conscience peace Or wash away the stain. But Christ, the heav’nly Lamb, Takes all our sins away; A sacrifice of nobler name And richer blood than they. My faith would lay her hand On that dear head of Thine, While, like a penitent, I stand, And there confess my sin. My soul looks back to see The burdens Thou didst bear When hanging on the cursèd tree, And hopes her guilt was there. Believing, we rejoice To see the curse remove; We bless the Lamb with cheerful voice, And sing His bleeding love.

• [Heb 10:4] O Thou Whose Offering On The Tree

  O Thou whose offering on the tree The legal offerings all foreshowed, Borrowed their whole effect from Thee, And drew their virtue from Thy blood. The blood of goats and bullocks slain, Could never for one sin atone; To purge the guilty offerer’s stain, Thine was the work, and Thine alone. Vain in themselves their duties were, Their services could never please, Till joined with Thine, and made to share The merits of Thy righteousness. Forward they cast a faithful look On Thy approaching sacrifice; And thence their pleasing savor took, And rose accepted in the skies. These feeble types and shadows old, Are all in Thee, the Truth, fulfilled; We in Thy sacrifice behold The substance of those rites revealed. Thy meritorious sufferings past, We see by faith to us brought back; And, on Thy grand oblation cast, Its saving benefits partake.

• [Heb 10:10] Once, Only Once

  Once, only once, and once for all, His precious life He gave; Before the cross in faith we fall, And own it strong to save. “One off’ring, single and complete,” With lips and hearts we say; But what He never can repeat He shows forth day by day. For as the priest of Aaron’s line Within the holiest stood, And sprinkled all the mercy shrine With sacrificial blood; So He, who once atonement wrought, Our Priest of endless power, Presents Himself for those He bought In that dark noontide hour. His manhood pleads where now it lives On heaven’s eternal throne, And where in mystic rite He gives Its presence to His own. And so we show Thy death, O Lord, Till Thou again appear, And feel, when we approach Thy board, We have an altar here.

• [Heb 10:10] True Messiah Now Appears, The

  The true Messiah now appears, The types are all withdrawn; So fly the shadows and the stars Before the rising dawn. No smoking sweets, nor bleeding lambs, Nor kid nor bullock slain; Incense and spice of costly names Would all be burnt in vain. Aaron must lay his robes away, His miter and his vest, When God Himself comes down to be The offering and the priest. He took our mortal flesh to show The wonders of His love; For us He paid His life below, And prays for us above. “Father,” He cries, “forgive their sins, For I Myself have died”; And then He shows His opened veins And pleads His wounded side.

  Come, all harmonious tongues, Your noblest music bring; ’Tis Christ the everlasting God, And Christ the man, we sing. Tell how He took our flesh, To take away our guilt; Sing the dear drops of sacred blood That hellish monsters spilt. Alas! the cruel spear Went deep into His side, And the rich flood of purple gore Their murderous weapons dyed. The waves of swelling grief Did o’er His bosom roll, And mountains of almighty wrath Lay heavy on His soul. Down to the shades of death He bowed His smitten head; Yet He arose to live and reign When death itself is dead. No more the bloody spear, The cross and nails no more; For hell itself shakes at His Name, And all the heav’ns adore. There the Redeemer sits High on the Father’s throne; The Father lays His vengeance by, And smiles upon His Son. • [Heb 10:14] When O’er My Sins I Sorrow

  When o’er my sins I sorrow, Lord, I will look to Thee And hence my comfort borrow That Thou wast slain for me; Yea, Lord, Thy precious blood was spilt For me, O most unworthy, To take away my guilt. Oh, what a marvelous offering! Behold, the Master spares His servants, and their suffering And grief for them He bears. God stoopeth from His throne on high; For me, His guilty creature, He deigns as man to die. My manifold transgression Henceforth can harm me none Since Jesus’ bloody Passion For me God’s grace hath won. His precious blood my debts hath paid; Of hell and all its torments I am no more afraid. Therefore I will forever Give glory unto Thee, O Jesus, loving Savior, For what Thou didst for me.
